Michael Comninos
(25) is studying a Masters in Environmental Management at University
of New South Wales, and has a Mathematics degree from the University
of Sydney.
Michael’s late father was born in Alexandria, Egypt of Greek
and Syrian parents, while Michael’s mother was born in Sicily
and is of Italian decent. Michael grew up in the multicultural City
of Botany Bay and was educated at St Spyridon College, a Greek Orthodox
College in Sydney’s Eastern suburbs.
While at university Michael has been active in the Greek Australian
community, and has held various positions in the Student Organisations
at the University of Sydney, including Chair of the Cultural Diversity
committee of the USYD Union.
Currently Michael is the Acting Chair of the Federation of Ethnic
Communities' Councils of Australia Youth Committee, and is a member
of the Australian Hellenic Council. He has previously been the National
President of the National Union of Greek Australian Students. Michael’s
aim is to help people of cultural and linguistically diverse backgrounds
to have access to the infrastructure needed for their communities
to be able to express themselves. |
