2. Can Healthy Food be Tasty? NEW
Chinese, Filipino, Spanish, Sri Lankan [Tamil and Sinhalese], Pacific Island or Italian?
Multicultural Health Communication Services (MHCS) - NSW Health has been contracted by the Australian Better Health Initiative (ABHI) to support its national campaign to increase awareness of physical activity and healthy eating guidelines amongst CALD communities. The target groups are Chinese, Filipino, Spanish, Sri Lankan, Pacific Island and Italian communities - groups with some of the highest rates of diabetes, according to recent research.
As part of the multicultural nutrition campaign, MHCS will host a contest collecting the most delicious and healthy traditional recipes from the targeted communities in NSW. This project aims to educate these groups about cooking traditional tasty meals, using healthier ingredients and healthier methods of food preparation.

FUNDED SERVICES FOR OLDER PEOPLE, PEOPLE WITH A DISABILITY & THEIR CARERS FROM CULTURALLY & LINGUISTICALLY DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS
1. Community Care Services for Arabic Community NEW
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed on 22 April 2009 to form a partnership between Tripoli and Mena Association and KinCare's CACP, EACH & respite aged care packages. The partnership will enable Kincare to respond to the religious, cultural and care needs of the Arabic Muslim elderly and work towards reducing barriers that the Arabic elderly face when accessing services.

3. TeleCross NEW
FREE service where a trained Red Cross volunteer makes a short, friendly telephone call to a Telecross client to ensure that they are safe and well. If the call is not answered, a second call is made. If there is still no response, Red Cross initiates an emergency procedure and arranges assistance if necessary.

4. Carer Assist Services for people of Indian background NEW
Carer Assist has Carer Advocates who provide individual support services and education and training for carers and families of someone with a mental illness within the boundaries of three Area Health Services:
Sydney South West AHS - Offices currently located in Belmore, Campbelltown and Moss Vale
Hunter/New England AHS - Offices currently located in Newcastle, Tamworth, Armidale, Taree and Warialda.
